SHSU Continuing Education to Inaugurate Event Management Certificate Program in 2014
Event management is a fast-growing industry. Sam Houston State University recognizes that fact, and will soon offer individuals the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and training needed for success in this field with an Event Management Certificate program.
Meeting, convention, and event planners coordinate professional meetings and events, ranging from community-based, non-profit, and corporate events and meetings to weddings and conferences. Professional event managers handle all phases of events, from planning to production to post-production. They select meeting locations, arrange transportation, and coordinate other details on behalf of their client or employer.
SHSU Continuing Education’s Event Management Certificate program will provide people with knowledge of the industry, help them accumulate the hours they need to become eligible for national certification examinations, and enhance career placement opportunities for students currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at SHSU. Starting in 2014, both currently enrolled SHSU students and non-SHSU students will be able to pursue the Event Management Certificate.
The Event Management Certificate program will include two courses (Event Management I and II), and students will be required to complete a 100-hour internship.
