The Continuing Education Department of Sam Houston State University (SHSU) plans and conducts non-credit educational travel to support the personal development goals of the residents of east Texas. We are committed to the principle that world travel provides new perspectives, enriches our lives and causes us to better understand other people and cultures. Non-credit educational travel is offered by Sam Houston State University on a self-supporting basis; no state or university funds are used. We rely completely on the fees paid by participants to make this possible.
Therefore, SHSU can make no refunds of fees paid for non-credit educational travel. Participant travelers are on notice that due to payments and agreements made with travel providers, including pooling of fees to secure package discounts, participant monies received are often immediately obligated and unavailable for refund.
In the following limited emergency situations, SHSU may make a refund of portion of fees not previously obligated to a third party:
- The participant provides documentation of a medical or severe personal emergency; and
- The refund will not cause cancellation of the entire trip (i.e., trip requires 10 travelers, and without your fees, the group cannot go) or disadvantage discounts negotiated for the trip (i.e., 10 travelers are required for the discount advertised and agreed to by other travelers).
We regret the necessity of a strict refund policy, but it is a business necessity to provide affordable travel opportunities for our community.
