SHSU Continuing Education Partnering With Council for Professional Recognition to Provide CDA Certification
SHSU’s Department of Continuing Education, and Dr. C. Miki Henderson of the Department of Language, Literacy and Special Populations, will assist in meeting the growing need for qualified childcare staff and paraprofessionals in public schools by offering the Child Development Associate® (CDA) National Credentialing Program. The CDA program is designed to assess and credential early childhood education and extended care professionals working with infants through sixth grade.
The Council for Professional Recognition’s National Credentialing Program recognizes and credentials professionals who work in all types of early care and education programs, including Head Start, private Pre-K, infant-toddler, school age, family childcare, and home visitor programs. The Continuing Education department will provide the training hours and professional guidance to applicants seeking the Council’s CDA certification.
The CDA program is designed for people entering the early childhood field. Participating individuals must be employed in a public or private childcare setting. The program can also be utilized by high school students in vocational education for credit, with approval of their school advisors. SHSU Continuing Education will offer a non-credentialed certificate for paraprofessionals (classroom aides) with approval of their school administrator.
Dr. C. Miki Henderson is a recognized CDA Specialist and Advisor for the program by SHSU’s Continuing Education. She can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org or (936) 294-4638.
